FRAUD CHARGES
Very poor customer service, they did fraud charges on my card after telling me they had canceled that policy and payment, and I should see it in my account on Thursday. 2 days later (Wednesday) that money was drafted out of my account, I called, they told me that they "never canceled" even after my request and them telling me that they had, it is now Friday and that money is still not in my account.
MONEY HUNGRY BUSINESS!!!!
As well as emailing me on Friday with my policy information WHICH SHOULD BE CANCELED?!?!? Everyone I have spoke with has been less than helpful and act like it's my banks fault for the money not being there when my bank can't process something that has not been release/refunded!
VPI Pet Insurance, Don't waste your money!
I was on the phone for almost an hour this afternoon trying to get a policy reinstated on my account after 4 years of this dog being insured with them. It is truly a shame that spending over $10k over the last few years with 5 dog policies with VPI means nothing.
Receiving a blank statement phone call to return their phone call and supposedly getting 3 renewal notices is not a way to treat a good repeat customer.
They Never talk about their 'grace periods' and no one knows what the other hand is doing.
As a small dog business owner, I take pride in my customer service and the care of the dogs, but that surely does not seem the be the same case with this company.
There are Many other pet insurance places out there and others that will actual care to have you as a client!
VPI -can you say Class Action Lawsuit?
Need I say more.....I have found an attorney and hopefully everyone ever insured by VPI will receive notice.
Review your claims and EOB's with a fine tooth comb. VPI uses very slick strategies to ignore diagnoses, attribute to previous health problem and/or categorically are not educated enough to process simple or complex medical claims.
I challenge any satisfied consumer to present their claims EOB's and I bet I can find at least one to five examples how they could have paid more.
Dealing with VPI is more frustrating than dealing with cancer! Most people are too worn out caring for their pets to really question the business practices of VPI.
This would never happen with USAA.
VPI don't ever waste your money worthless
I've paid WAY OVER $5,000 in to VPI pet insurance over several years--(finally needed their help) My cat caught her leg on a table when running and got a very bad sprain I paid $167 for vet visit received $40.00 dollars from VPI I was shocked(I really thought i'd get the full amount back--- I cancelled-VPI- immediately------so much better to PUT ASIDE 20 dollars or less a month for vet!- RIP OFF VPI PET INSRANCE PLEASE LET MY LOSS BE YOUR GAIN -YOU"VE BEEN WARNED - JUST SAY NO TO VPI PET INSURANCE
Inventing ways to deny policies
This pet insurance company is horrible! I couldn't even get through the process to get a policy through them due to the horrific customer service. I have spoken to three representatives and a saleswoman, all four people were condescending, twisting my words and generally refused to listen to what I had to say. They would cut me off in the middle of sentences and talk over me, every single phone call.
In general, the company was quick to invent "pre-exisiting conditions" to deny my pet. They took one medical issue that happened over a year ago one time and called it a pre-exisiting condition to deny my pet. When I asked them to get medical records proving it was a one time thing over a year ago, they proceeded to call all the vets my pet has seen and deny based on two new conditions they found while combing through old records, again things that were one time issues and had never come back.
It is unfortunate that so many businesses choose to work with this company, as it makes taking my business to a competitor even tougher. The saleswoman I worked with was quick to upsell policies and preventative care, using horrible emotional appeals about "really loving" my pet. Disgusting. I would never recommend this pet insurance to any pet owner.
Y Vet said VPI does not pay out on claims
Go on Yelp, VPI has horrible reviews!!!My Vet warned me about VPI, he was right. I should of Listened.
They just sent us a 15.00 check for a 153.00 Vet Bill. WOW are you kidding me. We have the best plan they offered. WE rescued our dog in November From Chicago Animal Control, he was at least a year old when we got him.
They sent us a letter saying we need proof of his Vet bills his first year, I told the rep who signed us up all the details. We have had coverage for 5 months and just took him in and sent in our first claim. Are Dog has Allergic Conjuctivitas.
Not worth the 44.00 per month. I was very doubtful that Pet Insurance would be worth it and I was !00% correct
V.P.I. A Vulgar Excuse For Insurance!
I've had the best VPI plan offered on both my cats for 2 years now. I just recently had to submit my first claim.
I found out yesterday that the benefit I will be receiving for $794.00 out of pocket "˜so far' to keep my pet from eminent death is $132.00. However, if a $2500 surgery had been necessary VPI was prepared to offer up an additional $157.00 which would include hospitalization, anesthesia and injections, the actual surgery reimbursement would have fallen under $60. What I received in return for this claim was equivalent to 4 months of premiums for this one cat. I now know there are better pet insurance companies that actually offer legitimate insurance, meaning that they pay out realistic reimbursements of medical fees consistent with actual fees charged somewhere within the free world.
They aren't difficult to find either just Google pet insurance, one of the companies pays 80% on claims on all polices beginning after two weeks of commencement of the policy. A VPI supervisor "Marsha Bryant" told me yesterday that she has actually seen reimbursements from VPI to pet owners of $5000, which is what my maximum benefit is per incident is, however, she added that the out-of-pocket to the owner on the care they were reimbursing was $20.000.00. Compared to my benefits that does seem generous and if you have 20K to pay out of pocket you too might be so fortunate otherwise, I would advise that you take these numbers into close consideration before signing up your beloved pet with VPI.
This is not insurance by definition, and it is by design that they use the reimbursement schedule implemented in the policies to take needed funds from those with sick pets. That has to be the intended result being that it is the known outcome on majority of the claims.
VPI Doesn't Pay
My dog got bacteria in her ear and dermatitis on her feet. They denied the claim and said I needed to send them more medical documents. Even after the Vet sent every single piece of paper in my dog's file to VPI they still requested more information. A couple of months later they claimed it 'MAY' be related to allergies -- which is a pre-existing condition. They have no proof that it is or is not and it would cost me $500 in lab tests to prove it. Never got a penny. Absolutely worthless. Glad this happened in month three after $60 of premiums instead of years down the road and a lot of wasted money. I will be reporting them:

Read the fine print For VPI
The day before my policy started for my 10week old puppy; she got really sick. She had to stay the night at the ER Vet Hospital for treatment.
The day the policy started, wasn't covered either as VPI said it was now a "Prexcisting" condition. I'm out $1000.00. Plus whenever I do finally get to use the policy, I'm out the decuctable as well. There's more money out the window.
The supervisor had an excuse for everything as to why she wasn't covered. Insurance companies alway win.
Anything to get out of paying! They've got you by the short hairs!
VPI Pet is a SCAM!
We had VPI Pet insurance from March 2011 through January 2012 when we just caught on that they are a big SCAM. DON"T even consider this company.
They took over 6 months to process our claim and then had every excuse on why they couldn't cover the claim. Our dog was diagnosed with allergies after our policy started and they are trying to say it was a pre-existing condition! It's ridiculous. So whatever you submit, they will find a way NOT to cover it.
Spread the word this company is a huge SCAM!
My neighbor warned me after I started the policy that they were a SCAM, but we learned the hard way.
SCAM!!!!
VPI happily took my money each month for 15 years. Now after the sadness of having to put my cat to sleep they drop me like a hot potato!
I submitted approximately $1,300.00 worth of claims and was reimbursed approximately $250.00. When I questioned why the reimbursement was so low, their response was that my cat has reached her "lifetime maximum limit". THIS IS A SCAM! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Not to mention that even after I cancelled my account, they continued to send me tags for my cat. Just a small reminder that I lost a pet who I considered a family member!
The Biggest Ripoff Ever
We insured two dogs with VPI. The first got sick a couple of months after the policy began, and they claimed the dog must have been beforehand and never paid a cent.
The second was healthy for 10 years, they collected over $5,000 in premiums, and when he came down with cancer gave us $355 in annual benefits. I hope there is a ***.

VPI doesn't pay, very misleading company
My experience with VPI has been very stressful and negative. They are confusing, misleading, and find any way possible NOT to pay for legitimate claims.
They completely refused to pay for orthopedic surgery needed after an injury. My dog needed two surgeries, for two different injuries that happened at two different times, but the injuries were diagnosed at the same time by the specialist, so VPI refused to pay for the second surgery. This was a completely legitimate claim, and should absolutely have been covered. It left me holding the bag for $3,000.
I'm furious and disillusioned, and I'm looking for another company to go with. Due to this experience of mine, all three of the Vets that I've been dealing with with my dog, have taken the VPI brochures off their shelves, and are recommending a different company.
I got ripped of in 8list.com and i need my money back
i bought a Akita puppies on 8list.com and i was told that it was going to be sent all the way to my house from Arkansas to Greenfield WI.It was going to get to my house on the 4/12/11 and that it was going to be arriving at 8am or 11am and it is now 12:52am.First i had paid $250.00 for the dog and when it supposedly arrived to Chicago i got an e-mail that said that i had to pay $240.00 for the insurance and city permit so i paid it and the dog has not arrived i want to know if i can get my money back.i am starting to think that it was all a ripoff and i want to know if i can file a police report aor something that could help me to either get the puppie or the money back because i am not just going to be giving my money for free.
vpi pet insurance. the reimbursement is not enough
My dog is Scooter. Policy #595874 he has a heart problem and is being
treated for heart disease.
I had to bring him to the vet a few times and the total came to about $1200. They reimbursed me a total of $279., which to me is not enough just because it all relates to his heart. I now had to leave him in the hospital overnight because of fluid in his lungs.
The bill came to about $1080. I feel they should be able to reimburse me a reasonable amount considering the money and how many years I have with vpi pet insurance.

Hi everyone who has had serious issues with VPI. I was one of the earlier posters that had wanted to file a lawsuit against VPI.
I no longer have service with them. My dog who was covered passed a year ago. And I will say my situation with VPI got worse as time progressed. I am still interested in a lawsuit if others are.
My interest are, yes recovering some of my funds, but equally I believe that VPI is criminal in it's practices. Should we start a chat group off this site? It could be via email exchange, GroupMe, etc....It would be good to compile a concise list of issues with VPI, look for lawyers, etc...Let me know and I would be happy to get the call rolling.
Best! Suzanne
Suzanne:
I have received several e-mails and phone calls regarding people who want to join in a class action. I believe we would have plenty of people to start one and could develop a website or like you mentioned, a chat room, elsewhere, if not here.
Share your thoughts with me. I work for two defense attorneys who cannot assist but may be able to find someone who could.
Have never started a class action and am unfamiliar with jurisdiction. Will do some research.

I intend to start a lawsuit against them as well. They refuse to accept my medical bills that list the medicine and the description of the item's function as sufficient proof of treatment.
They now want me to go get the vet to write a detailed explanation! for each and every item on each bill! And they do not cover the progression of any disease excluded by their exclusion list?? that basically says that they can refuse to cover just about anything at all.
The exclusion list is things that they do not cover. If they add to that list items that they have not included in the exclusion list, that is basically adding every other illness/disease/condition/problem to the list without writing it down as an excluded item that they do not have to cover. And it is incredibly underhanded, the way they have added that as a short line to the end of the list.
How are they legally allowed to get away with this?
They are downright maliciously robbing money without even the pretense of good business practice.
It seems like like every single business dealing with our beloved animals is polluted with the worst sort of human refuse, trying to bleed us for our money from the gaping wound of our anguish. I know there are righteous people in these businesses, but there is at least one large company in each Pet related industry whose effusion covers all the rest with the stench of their greed
I am going through it with them right now. It is so upsetting and hard to deal with.
This company should NOT be allowed to do this. I also just filed a claim with BBB.
Enough is enough. Count me in.

Did u fill class action. I'm interested!!
I just filed prescription med claims for my boxer - all of a sudden this "company" decides they can unilaterally incorporate this as a pre-existent condition that wasn't on our initial policy???????? I don't think so.
I work for a fine group of lawyers and guess what?? You're on the *** end of my stick you ***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let the war begin.
Count me in! They scam me as well after 12 years. Despicable business.
